(Melrose, MA) MAY 14, 2015….Mass in Motion-Melrose/Wakefield is proud to announce that Village Variety, located at 446 Main Street in Melrose, is now a Mass in Motion Healthy Market.
An initiative of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the City of Melrose and Town of Wakefield Health Departments, the Mass in Motion Healthy Market Program works with local convenience store owners to make healthy food and drink options more readily available. By promoting healthy options, the local markets are helping to make healthy choices easier for families.
Since opening December 2014, Jeremy Lockett, owner of Village Variety, has been stocking an extensive line of fresh fruits and vegetables, nourishing nut & dried fruit mixes and unique choices such as hard-boiled eggs and plantain chips.
“The selection of fresh produce here is amazing! You can find kid-friendly snacks like Pirates Booty, and individual grab-and-go 100% fruit juices and light cheese sticks as well. They managed to fit a lot of product in a small, clean space,” says Mass in Motion Coordinator, Kara Showers.
“We love being a part of the Melrose Main Street community and connecting with our customers. Fruit and vegetables are a part of our everyday meals at home so it made sense for us to offer them at the store,” says Lockett.
Village Variety joins Bob’s Market, West Wyoming Market, Melrose Shell and Common Market as the fifth Healthy Corner Store in Melrose. Find Village Variety on Facebook.
