International Walk and Ride to School Day started this beautiful day at the Melrose and Wakefield elementary and middle schools! Lots and lots of walkers and bikers! Thank you to Safe Routes to School and all school nurses, faculty/staff, parents, administrators, PTO’s, and of course, students!

Next it was off to the Middlesex Fells for an “Autumn at Long Pond” walk; this nature exploration was led by Boot Boutwell, one of the many Friends of the Fells expert hike leaders. Participants ranged in age from 7 months to senior citizen and all enjoyed flexing body and mind in this outdoor classroom setting.

Then I headed to the Dockside Restaurant at 1099 Main Street in Wakefield, for an apple, goat cheese and fig press, one of the Lighter Side entree selections at this Mass in Motion-Melrose/Wakefield Healthy Dining establishment–yum! Today they are offering a “Buy one healthy entree, get one free” dine-in special until 10pm–be sure to grab a group and stop by!

The day is only 1/2 over!
